Evolution or Revolution and The Rogue User(s)
March 20, 2007
On TechRepublic (http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-6230-0.html?forumID=102&threadID=214941&messageID=2194329) there is currently an interesting debate about “Rogue Users” and whether or not it is the fault of the IT Department or Users not prepared to follow the rules. From our personal experience at Anything4aEuro, both parties could be considered at fault. But why? The simple answer is cost of continual upgrades and supportability of the environment. But this stems from people not knowing enough about their estate, asset management and “real time” updates is the answer perhaps, integrated solutions – best of breed solutions working as one, for example Centennial Discovery for Asset Management solutions gives you the near real time information about a particular workstation and the software on it. Integrate this into your helpdesk system (Heat, Remedy or Royal Blue) and your helpdesk staff can provide a high level of support.
Legislation and “user groups” are paramount too. All the legislation in the world will not prevent the “rogue users” especially if they are stuck on NT 4.0 workstations at work and at home they have XP (or even Vista) why should they “suffer”.
If the IT systems at their place of work do allow someone to perform their job efficiently then who is accountable?
Of course, given infinite budgets everyone would have the latest and greatest BUT the IT staff also have a job to provide business continuity and it pains me to say it but software is not stable in its first or even second release.
Breaking a trend… Work collaboration focus
March 14, 2007
Thursday 22nd June 2007 @ 16:00hrs GMT Set Your Diary For a Webinar
At Anything4aEuro, we are always trying to bring new and innovative solutions to the market and our customers. If you work in the CAD marketing place then you need to attend this webinar… Collaboration in the global engineering environment has never been more important, and the need for it will continue to grow.IT solutions for CAD collaboration must overcome new boundaries across different geographic locations and different partner companies. Most would agree that collaboration certainly makes sense, but also agree that it can cause problems in the collaborating organizations. Technology has driven major collaboration efforts. Establishing a cooperative atmosphere backed by a formal process of collaboration is key.
Challenges
In this Webinar, Peer Software will demonstrate how its industry leading PeerSync CAD Collaboration package will break down these barriers to engineering excellence.
The presenters will show how accelerating file access to instant LAN speeds improves quality by saving time, reducing wait times for file open and eliminating file conflicts. They will also show a more effective process of saving CAD data that is easier to share, use and reuse. In addition, they will discuss how Peer makes instant, automatic change propagation a reality throughout the collaboration process.
PeerSync CAD Collaboration package enables seamless global collaboration based on transparent file synchronization and file locking among multiple geographical locations with Real-Time CAD File Transfers for fast recovery and usage.
Since its introduction in 1993, PeerSync has been used by thousands of organizations to keep their data secure, in-sync and available continuously, without interruption. PeerSync unobtrusively monitors connections between storage points (e.g., server to server, desktop to server, desktop to desktop) and provides a range of manual, scheduled and/or real-time file backup and synchronization routines. In addition, users can select multiple source-target configurations for speed and flexibility when dealing with multiple computers and storage devices.

MSDE Backup Solutions
March 13, 2007
An interesting discussion took place a day or so back regarding organisations who run mission critical applications based on MSDE. Sure, we’ve all done it and forgotten about them until it all goes wrong.
The problem with MSDE is that there isn’t any scheduled backup utility, in applications such as Centennial Discovery there is the manual option to backup the database, the trouble with this is that it requires human intervention.
Most people use MSDE because it’s free and a full SQL license is quite expensive. There are of course the capacity limitations but small organisations are not going to realistically hit these for some time.
So, throwing the question open to others, what do people use to backup application data stored in MSDE?

Adsense
March 9, 2007
As a short-term trial (probably around 3 months) we have decided to use Google Adsense on our main site (www.anything4aeuro.com). The aim will be tailor the ads on the site towards Asset Management and Centennial Software solutions and even partners of Centennial Software.
We already have a partners page, so if you are a Centennial Software reseller or distributor and what a link to your site then email us via our contacts page
